Most pothos yellowing does NOT mean you need to buy anything

When pothos leaves turn yellow, most owners assume they need a new fertilizer, a moisture meter, or a complete soil replacement. Research from extension horticulturists suggests otherwise. The vast majority of pothos yellowing cases stem from watering issues or normal leaf aging — neither of which requires a purchase.

A pothos plant naturally sheds its oldest leaves. If one or two lower leaves turn yellow every few months while new growth emerges healthy and green, you are watching normal senescence. No intervention needed.

You do need to troubleshoot (and possibly buy something) if: multiple leaves yellow simultaneously across the plant, yellowing occurs in new growth rather than old foliage, or yellowing accompanies wilting, brown spots, or stunted growth. What features actually matter when diagnosing pothos yellowing

Watering patterns and soil moisture
